Box Studio by DBF Nexus lets customers fill their own gift box online with live prices and ready-made boxes. Built for shops in Lebanon and the Gulf.

Gift boxes are one of the strongest sales drivers for shops in Lebanon and the Gulf. Eid, Ramadan, Mother's Day, weddings, births, birthdays and corporate gifting create demand all year. Yet most online stores still sell gift boxes the hard way: a fixed product photo, a WhatsApp conversation to change the contents, and a price calculated by hand.

Box Studio is DBF Nexus's answer to that problem. It is a gift box builder that lets customers fill their own box online, see the price update with every tap, personalize it, and order in minutes. Shops can also offer ready-made boxes that customers can buy as they are or customize. DBF Nexus, a custom software company based in Beirut, Lebanon, built Box Studio first for Ola Beauty, a beauty reseller importing German drugstore products, and designed it from day one as a reusable module for other businesses.

What is Box Studio?

Box Studio is an interactive "fill the box" experience for e-commerce websites. Instead of browsing a normal product grid, the customer sees an open gift box on screen. Every product they choose appears inside it, and a live summary bar shows the number of items, the subtotal, the discount, the box fee and the total.

It covers two ways of buying a gift:

  • Build your own box: the customer picks products one by one until the box meets the shop's rules, for example a minimum of five items.
  • Ready-made boxes: curated boxes prepared by the shop, shown with their contents, the value if bought separately and the amount saved. Any ready box can be opened in the builder and adjusted.

Everything is controlled from a content management system (CMS). The shop owner changes box fees, discount tiers, minimum items, ready boxes and occasions without calling a developer.

How does the "fill the box" experience work?

The flow is designed for mobile first, because most gift shoppers in Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia browse on their phones.

  1. Choose products. Tap a product to add it to the box, tap again to remove it. Category chips and search help customers find items quickly. Sold-out products never appear.
  2. Watch the box fill up. Product thumbnails appear inside a photo of the shop's real box, arranged neatly inside its shape, whether that is a heart, a round hatbox or a classic rectangle.
  3. See the price live. A sticky bar shows progress such as "3 / 5 items", the discount tier reached and the running total. Hints like "Add 2 more to complete your box and get 10% off" encourage customers to add items.
  4. Personalize. Customers write a card message, choose to deliver to someone else, pick a delivery date and can hide prices from the recipient.
  5. Order. The box lands in the bag as one line that expands to show its contents. At Ola Beauty, the order goes straight to WhatsApp with a clear gift box section, which matches how many shops in the region already confirm orders.

Which businesses need a gift box builder?

Any business whose customers buy gifts benefits from Box Studio, especially in markets where gifting is part of the culture. Across Lebanon and the Gulf states, these are the strongest fits:

  • Chocolatiers, pastry and sweets shops: Eid, Ramadan and Christmas boxes where customers mix their favorite pieces.
  • Wedding, engagement and baptism favors: dragées and favor boxes ordered in larger quantities with custom mixes.
  • Beauty and cosmetics shops: birthday, self-care and Mother's Day boxes, like the ones live at Ola Beauty.
  • Florists: flowers combined with add-ons such as chocolates, candles or perfume.
  • Coffee, tea and date shops: tasting boxes and corporate gift sets, very popular in the Gulf.
  • Perfumeries: discovery sets and gift hampers.
  • Baby shops: new baby boxes, including gifts that also spoil the new mother.
  • Corporate gifting companies: branded boxes for employees and clients, with a minimum order and fixed budget per box.

If your customers regularly message you asking "can you make me a box with this, this and this?", you need a gift box builder.

Why does building a box increase order value?

A gift box turns a single-item purchase into a multi-item order. Three mechanisms drive this:

  • Minimum items. Requiring at least five products sets a natural floor for every order.
  • Discount tiers. Customers see exactly how close they are to the next tier, for example 10% off from five items and 15% off from eight. That visible goal pushes them to add one or two more products.
  • Clear savings on ready boxes. Showing "Value if bought separately: $39.50, box price $34, you save $5.50" makes the deal obvious and reduces hesitation.

The result is a higher average order value (AOV), the average amount a customer spends per order, without discounting every product on the site. DBF Nexus is collecting real order data at Ola Beauty and will publish the numbers in a follow-up case study.

What features does Box Studio include?

Box Studio by DBF Nexus ships with the following features:

  • Build-your-own boxes with a minimum item count, optional maximum and a box fee for packaging.
  • Live pricing with discount tiers applied to items, never to the box fee.
  • Ready-made boxes with automatic pricing (items minus box discount plus fee) or a fixed price set by the shop, always showing the savings.
  • Customize a ready box: customers open any ready box in the builder and swap items.
  • Occasions and seasons: tags such as Birthday, New Baby or Mother's Day, plus show-from and show-until dates so seasonal boxes appear and disappear automatically.
  • Box styles: heart, round or classic boxes with their own photos, when the shop offers a choice.
  • Personalization: card message, delivery to a recipient, delivery date and hidden prices.
  • Stock awareness: sold-out products are hidden from the builder, and ready boxes have their own availability switch because prepared boxes already contain their items.
  • Server-side validation: prices, discounts and availability are recalculated on the server for every order, so edited prices in the browser are ignored.
  • Search engine optimization (SEO) ready: every ready box has its own page with structured data, including price and availability.
  • Accessibility: the live builder scores 100 in Lighthouse accessibility on mobile and desktop.
  • Cross-selling: product pages show "Also in these gift boxes".

How does Box Studio fit into an existing online store?

Box Studio is built as a module with a clean separation between its core and the shop. The core handles pricing, rules, validation and the builder interface. A thin adapter connects it to the shop's product catalog, branding and checkout.

For Ola Beauty, DBF Nexus connected Box Studio to a Next.js storefront, a Sanity CMS and a WhatsApp checkout. For other clients, the same core can connect to a different catalog or payment flow, including card payments or local wallets. The look is controlled through a small set of design variables, so the builder matches each brand instead of looking like a plugin.

This is the difference between custom development and a generic app store plugin. A template gift box app rarely supports Arabic and English content, WhatsApp ordering, local delivery rules or the regional occasions that drive sales in the Gulf. Read more about this trade-off in our guide to custom website development vs templates.

Can AI assistants find and recommend your gift boxes?

More shoppers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews questions like "where can I order a custom gift box in Beirut?". Box Studio is built to be understood by these systems. Each ready box has a dedicated page, a clear description, structured product data and a price, which is exactly the kind of content generative engine optimization (GEO) relies on.

DBF Nexus applies the same approach across its projects. Learn how in our GEO guide for Lebanon and MENA and our case study on optimizing a 1,000-product catalogue for AI search.

How long does it take to launch Box Studio?

Timelines depend on the existing store. A typical rollout looks like this:

At Ola Beauty, the builder, ready-made boxes, personalization and server checks were delivered in phases and tested end to end before launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gift box builder?

Can customers still buy ready-made gift boxes?
Yes. Shops can publish curated boxes with a fixed or automatic price. Customers can buy them as they are or open them in the builder and swap products.
Does Box Studio work with WhatsApp orders?
Yes. At Ola Beauty, every box is sent to WhatsApp as a structured order message with all items, the discount, the card message, recipient and delivery date. Other checkout methods can be connected.
Can the shop change prices and rules without a developer?
Yes. Box fees, minimum items, discount tiers, ready boxes, occasions and seasonal dates are all managed in the content management system.
Is Box Studio only for beauty shops?
No. It suits chocolatiers, sweets shops, florists, favor makers, coffee and date shops, perfumeries, baby shops and corporate gifting companies.
Does it support Arabic?
Box Studio's interface text is configurable, so it can be delivered in Arabic, English or both, which DBF Nexus recommends for audiences in the Gulf states.
